Search Engine Optimization- Advice Needed?

Hi- I have created a web site with a keyword rich domain name. However, it has no hyphens in it (lets call it mywebsite.com). I have since bought the hyphenated version of the domain name (my-web-site.com) and would like some strategic advice.

I have a PPC campaign with my first domain name through Yahoo and Google, and several sites already link to it. I really don’t like the hyphenated version of the domain name because I think it looks low class. Any ideas what I can do with it to optimize search placement?

Obviously put meta tags and alt tags, but put a lot of keywords in your page that you want others to find. I have no idea what your website is for, but this can help regardless. Try not to use the hyphenated version and just redirect it to the non-hyphenated version.

There’s a lot of users out there getting real good placement with hyphenated domain names. You don’t have to give up on it. Besides getting back links, make sure you provide good content and do not over stuff your keywords. Write a few articles about your site and submit them to the article directories. Some people say that it is best to have your site map links on the right hand side of the page.
Check out the Matt Cutts blog. He works for Google and actually gives out a little inside info.

There isn’t much you can do about people who are using the hyphenated version to link to you unless you contact them and ask them to please change the link.

Choose one version of the domain to be your main domain. Use it in adwords and other places.

Above all you MUST (I can’t stress this enough) make sure that the one domain properly redirects to the other.

You can’t have two web sites with the exact same content. Google will see this and you’ll risk getting baned from the index.

On a side note, having keywords in a domain name is helpful only to users who might remember the name better. It’s not much value to search engine rankings.

I personally used a firm (link below) that did a 250,000 site submissions for my site. It worked great. But, results now take a few months.

Also, Best to get some FREE trial software to NOT only get listed, but, get high on the search engine results.
