I’ve recently pieced together a website for a dear friend of mine who has recently qualified as a baby massage teacher. Someone suggested to me that I add the website in Google web master tools but it doesn’t seem to be doing a lot.

The comments above are inappropriote – ignore them. The website could do with some more content articles, but I’m sure this is something you’re working on.
When you’ve built up a few more articles (love the graphics btw!), you should start looking at building a quality links program. Links are if you like, human "seals of approval" for your site. The more high-quality links relevant to your topic, the better. Link "spamming" however is ignored, or at worse penalized by the search engines.

I agree with search-engine-search.com about putting proper contact details on the page. Not only does it help search results but it also helps build credibility.
On the home page put some of the benefits of baby massage. That’s where it matters so that it reassures visitors that they’ve arrived at the right site. In addition, put some of those benefits in as keywords on the page. Think about what people are searching for. They’re not interested so much about the history of baby massage, rather they want to know how it will help their child sleep better or give them confidence handling their baby.
Put alt tags on every picture on the site. These are picked up by the search engine. Make sure they’re relevant to the page content.
Put a call to action on each page, too. Let readers know what you expect them to do next – book a course for example.
