One of the ways that all search engines determine which pages are most important, or "authoritative", is by checking how many other websites point to them, and how important *they* are.
Do CNN, Microsoft, Adobe, BBC, Amazon, Yahoo, and all the top music sites and blogs point to your site? No? Well, if they did, you would very likely be #1 for all your popular search terms.
